iOS 18 is giving vulnerable iPhone users a way to provide information and news to emergency responders with the new Emergency SOS feature.
Emergency SOS now supports live video, which means that as soon as the SOS feature is activated, streaming videos and recordings can be sent to emergency personnel. Emergency dispatchers can send a user’s request to share live video or video from the camera roll, which Apple says should make it easier and faster to get help.
Video is sent via a secure internet connection to the emergency dispatcher. This can allow vulnerable people to send important information for location purposes, to track injuries or accidents, or to be used as evidence in the future.
Emergency SOS is an iPhone and Apple Watch feature that automatically calls the local emergency number and shares location information with emergency services. It is the backbone of Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS via satellite.
